David M. Philips, MD

Dr. David M. Philips is a board-certified gastroenterologist who has been practicing with GIS since 1987. He is a partner with GastroIntestinal Specialists and serves on the Board of Directors. He has served as the Medical Director for the Shreveport Endoscopy Center (an ambulatory surgery center), as well as the President of the Medical Staff for Willis-Knighton Medical Center. Dr. Philips has represented GastroIntestinal Specialists as the President in the past, and he has been serving as the current President since 2013. Before GIS, he served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Gastroenterologist and Chief of Gastroenterology. His professional societies include the American College of Physicians, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the Louisiana State Medical Society, and the Shreveport Medical Society. Dr. Philips has been honored with the “Best Doctors of Shreveport” Award several times since 2007, as well as the “Best Doctors of Louisiana” Award multiple times since 2010. Dr. Philips’ training consists of a Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, including his internship and residency. He graduated from Emory University School of Medicine after completing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
